ABOUT CUB SCOUTS

Cub Scouts is a year-round program that offers fun activities that promote character and leadership development. Our program is designed to be hands-on, and parents are encouraged to play an active role in our programs.

Scouting embraces the outdoors through camping, hiking and water sports. We also focus on helping our communities through service projects, STEM development and building confident kids through our wide range of activities. The Cub Scout program is designed to develop physical, mental and emotional fitness. Fitness includes the body (well-tuned and healthy), the mind (able to think and solve problems), and the emotions (self-control, courage, and self-respect).

ABOUT PACK 505

Pack 505 is an active group of families and students from several area schools including St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School, Corpus Christi Catholic School, and Roberts Elementary.

Pack 505 has been a continuously operating pack for over 30 years! We are a larger pack with membership averaging about 90 cubs a year.

As of August 1, 2018 Pack 505 is now able to register girls for the Cub Scout program.

DENS:

In Cub Scouts, each pack is divided into several school-year based dens:

  • Lions (Kindergarten)

  • Tiger (1st)

  • Wolf (2nd)

  • Bear (3rd)

  • Webelos (4th)

  • Arrow of Light (5th)

Due to our pack size, we typically have 2 dens per rank with each den having between 5-10 cubs.

MEETINGS:

Pack meetings occur on the first Thursday of the month. They are typically held at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and School, 6802 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025. All Dens come to the Pack meeting.

Den meetings determine their schedules at beginning of school year, and they are decided by parents in the Den. Each Den meets individually.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

Cub Scouts and the Pack cannot function without help from parents. From just getting your child to the meetings to being a leader, there are many ways to be involved. We are always looking for leaders to help coordinate the functions and activities of the pack. We are an all-volunteer pack, so please consider volunteering. We can’t do it without you!

FUNDING:

The Boy Scouts of America require annual registration fees.

A subscription to Scouts’ Life magazine can be added to the registration and we highly recommend getting this for your scout. The annual fee to the BSA is $80, with a $25 joining fee, and the subscription to Scouts’ Life is $15.

Pack dues are collected at the beginning of the school year to help fund the pack. The pack pays for campsites at the camp outs, the adventure belt loops and ranks earned by the scouts, Pinewood Derby kits, neckerchiefs and slides presented at the rank awards ceremony, and other costs throughout the year.

We also participate in the popcorn sales fundraising drive in the fall. Popcorn sales help keep the dues as low as possible.

Funding should never be a reason a child can’t participate in Scouting. If your child wants to join, but you’re experiencing financial hardships, we will work it out.
