OUR ACTIVITIES

Blue and Gold Banquet

This annual event celebrates the founding of Cub Scouts. It involves games, food, and fun! It is typically held in the spring.

Family Camping

We go camping 4-5 times per year (November, December, February, March and April). We typically visit campgrounds within 60-90 minutes of SVdP. This is car camping and no experience is required! We’ll help out anyone who may be a novice camper or does not have camping gear.

Pack and Den Meetings

Pack meetings occur once a month. All Dens come to the Pack meeting. Pack meetings have included visits from Texas Snakes, the Houston Astronomy Club or activities such as building trebuchets, building and launching rockets, or learning about real-life astronaut suits.

Den meetings meet once or twice a month. The parents and leaders of each den determine its meeting schedule at the beginning of the school year.

Pinewood Derby

Cub Scouts design, build and race their own Pinewood Derby cars. The Scouts especially enjoy the demolition races! This event is typically held in late January.

Fall Popcorn Fundraiser

The Popcorn fundraiser is a major source of funds for our pack, supporting all of our activities and campouts. It is also a great way of learning important life lessons along the way, including communication skills, entrepreneurship, and being responsible with money. Scouts can take part in one of our pack-organized storefronts, go door-to-door in their local neighborhoods, or sell to family and friends online. Each year the highest selling dens and scouts are awarded prizes!

Scout Mass

Each year we celebrate Scout Sunday with a special mass at St Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Scout Sunday is the Boy Scouts of America's national day honoring the contribution of young people and adults to Scouting. Scout Mass usually occurs the first or second Sunday in February. Scouts who have completed work on religious emblems are presented with their awards.

Service Projects

"A Scout is helpful" is one of the twelve points of the Scout Law. Each year we aim to help our local community by arranging service projects for Cub Scouts to take part in. Past events have included volunteering at the Houston Food Bank and undertaking conservation projects at some of the nearby Scouts BSA campsites.

Summer Camps

The BSA Scouts organization offers many fun summer camp opportunities. Here are a couple close by:

Sam Houston Area Council Twilight Camp, typically evenings during the first week of summer.

Camp Bovay Resident Camp: 2.5 day camp with multiple sessions during July.

Summer Pack Events

During the summer months we tend to meet up for some more informal events as a Pack. The Water Balloon Monsoon and Water Squirt Melee are two of our most popular summer events, typically held right before school starts. Kids come to meet new friends, cool off, and enjoy popsicles. It's also a great time to bring a friend along who is interested in joining Scouts!
