Pack 505 Families:
Here are the goings on of Pack 505.
Pack 505 is not currently hosting any in-person Pack-wide events. The Pack committee continues to follow the lead of our charter organization: St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and School. Our Scouts may continue to work on awards and advancement with family, or friends as your family is comfortable. There are also lots of opportunities for Scouting online for families that are looking for activities to do from home.
2020 Summer Scavenger Hunt
Pack 505’s Summer Scavenger Hunt is back again. This year’s photo summer scavenger hunt will be the Scout Oath.
Scout Oath
On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Scavenger Hunt Rules:
1. Make a collage of at least six pictures. There should be a picture representing each of the highlighted topics. The topics are as follows with some examples to help think of ideas.
Duty to God and my Country(ex. act of religious expression, service activating, social distancing, donate used toys and clothes)
Obey the Scout Law(ex. write a thank you note, add to piggy bank, clean your room)
Help Other People(ex. participate in Den or Pack service project, chore for your family)
Keep myself Physically Strong(ex. eat healthy foods, play tag, go camping, swim, bike)
Keep myself Mentally Awake(ex. visit a museum, read, puzzles, learn a new skill, board games)
Keep myself Morally Straight(ex. be kind to friends and siblings, well-behaved for family)
2. Upload your collage to one or more of our Pack social accounts (Facebook, Shutterfly, etc) or bring to our first fall Pack meeting. You can look at thePack 505 Shutterflyfor examples from last year.
3. The pictures should be from six different events / activities.
4. Remember to follow the Scout Oath and Scout Law all summer.
5. Do Your Best and Have Fun.
See the rules attached.
Scavenger Hunt Patches:We will pre-order patches this year. A link will be sent later this summer for your patch preorder. We will send out the design for the patch with the preorder link.
Pack 505 Camp In
Pack 505 is planning on a camp in July. Have your Scout start preparing a joke, song, or skit to share. We will send out more information soon about how to share your Scout’s video.
If you would like to help plan or run this event, please email me atkyleverret@gmail.com
Scouting at Home
Some activities require that a Scout do an activity with their den. We are Scouting in unusual times. To meet “with your den” activities, a Scout’s family can be their den, or you can ask to meet virtually with Scouts in your den online. Do your best to have your Scout meet the spirit of these requirements.
Please enter your Scout’s advancement in Scoutbook as they earn it. Your Scout may finish their awards and adventures from the 2019-2020 school year, OR begin working on their next rank. August 1, 2020 is the deadline for 2019-2020 rank advancement.
Summer is a great time for awards, and the Nova and Supernova awards are great awards to work on. Find out more on our website athttps://www.houstonpack505.org/stem
We plan on ordering more awards and advancement belt loops as early as the first week of July. If your Scout is earning awards, we will do our best to make sure they get them. [Special thanks to Mr. Clayton Finney for going door to door delivery awards this summer]
REMEMBER: Youth Protection is very important while we Scout remotely. There should never be any one-on-one contact between your Scout and another adult. Anywhere there is a Scout, including online, there should be two adults.
If you have questions, or need help, please reach out to your den leaders and to me (kyleverret@gmail.com) or 713-471-4784. I am happy to help you and your Scout.

Looking Ahead
Our Pack Planning Meeting is August 2, 2020 at 5pm. We will plan on meeting in person, unless the situations requires otherwise.
Pack 505 is run by volunteers. The people that you see running your Pack and Den events give more time to providing your child the amazing program than you might ever know. We need your help. Please let us know your strengths, and where you would like to serve the Pack. You don’t have to be perfect, just Do Your Best.
If there is anything that I can do for your Scout, please reach out to me and let me know.
Yours in Scouting,
Kyle Verret
